Abstract
1289758 Roof ventilation J A HOOKER and W M CRAIG 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 8208/70 Heading E1W A roof with an impervious covering, e.g. 16, is ventilated by a ventilator with a modified one-way valve 6 which allows only a controlled downward leakage under suction from inside the roof, but allows egress of air from the roof during the day and the night. The ventilator has an apertured base 1 and a cover 4 secured, e.g. by vanes 5, and a screen 9 arranged above the valve. The valve may, as shown, comprise a base 7 of, e.g. copper, with a bowled upper surface with radiating grooves (13) therein (Fig. 2, not shown) extending from a central aperture 10, the aperture normally being closed by a flexible disc 8, of rubber or plastics, which can, however, flex to allow some ingress of air. Alternatively, the disc could have radiating grooves, stopping short of the periphery. The tube 3 of the ventilator extends up into the cover 4 to prevent flooding of the ventilator. With a concrete deck 14, small holes are preferably formed therein for ventilation purposes.
