1289364 Can openers AlCHIDENKIKOSAKUSHO KK 31 Dec 1969 [23 April -1969] 63448/69 Heading B8D A detachable hand lever or arm 23 carrying a cutter wheel 40 is pivotally-mounted on the body frame 10 of a can opener by a shaft 24, which is releasably-retained in a body frame bearing 26 by a spring-biased holding mechanism engaging a groove 29 in the shaft. The mechanism comprises a plate 30 having an aperture 32, the edge of which is urged into engagement with the groove by a spring 34 once the coned end 27 of the shaft has been pressed through the aperture. Depression of a button 33 urges the plate downwardly out of engagement with the groove and permits a spring 37 to shift the shaft axially outwards. The arm together with the shaft and cutting wheel may then be removed for cleaning of the wheel. The body frame mounts an electric motor M driving a traction wheel 18. The arm mounts a magnet 46 and is adapted to operate a motor-energizing button 50 when lowered to its operative position. In another embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the holding mechanism comprises a curved spring strip 30 having an intermediate portion whose engagement with the shaft groove may be released by raising a free end portion of the strip to facilitate removal of the shaft and arm. In a similar embodiment, Figs. 8 and 9, the groove is provided in only a part of the shaft circumference so that rotation of the shaft on pivoting the arm 23 upwards causes the disengagement of the strip from the groove.
