Abstract
1289294 Convertible vehicles WEATHERSHIELDS Ltd 5 Jan 1970 [3 Oct 1968] 46958/68 Heading B7B A roof panel 11 mounted on an opening in a vehicle body is raised at one end by means of two pairs of spaced parallel links 13, 15 pivoted together at 17 and to brackets 14, 16 on the body and roof panel respectively. A spring 21 connected between a lug 22 on the lower link 13 and the bracket 14 biases each pair of links towards the raised position in which the links reach an over-centre attitude with a pin 19 on an extension 18 of the upper link 15 bearing against the lower link 13. A flexible skirt 22, in which a transparent portion 23 may be mounted, provides a substantially watertight seal between the roof panel 11 and the vehicle body. In a modification, Fig. 4, the roof panel may be raised at both ends by means of a pair of links 38, 46 at each corner, the upper link 38 carrying at its lower end a U-shaped fitting 43 to which is pivoted the lower link 46, at 44, and at 50, an arm 48 having a curved, portion at its lower end, adjacent which it is pivoted to the vehicle body at 5, the arm 48 being biased upwardly by a spring 52. The upper end of the arm 48 is slotted so that it slides relative to the fitting 43 during raising or lowering of the roof panel.
