128,896. Lewis, A. A., and Dutton, F. O. June 25, 1918, [Convention date]. Parachutes cars and cabins.-A safety device for attachment to aircraft acts also as a weatherscreen and may be used as a parachute in making a safety descent. A mast which may be attached to the aircraft has an umbrella parachute 9 fixed to a sleeve 2 at its upper end, the ribs 4 being connected by ropes 6 with a fixed sleeve 7'near its lower end. The runner 10 is connected by springs 20 with the sleeve 2 and is held in its lower or closed position by catches 17 on spring- pressed levers 16. Flat springs 25 engage under the sleeve 10 in the expanded position to prevent accidental collapse. Air valves 23, operated by cords 24, are arranged in the central portion.
