Abstract

1288846 Feeding webs XEROX CORP 7 Sept 1970 [9 Sept 1969] 42754/70 Heading B8R Apparatus for decurling a web W as it is being fed from a supply roll 10 comprises a straightening member 12 mounted on a pivotable linkage 22, 52, 36, and control means, in the form of a roller 16, responsive to the diameter of the supply roll for controlling the position of the linkage so as to cause the angle the member 12 makes with the web path to change, as shown in dashed lines in Fig. 1, to vary the degree of decurl in response to changes in the supply roll diameter, whereby the decurling effect increases as the roll diameter decreases. The member 12 has a cross-section in the form of a major segment of a circle, so that a straight edge 14 is presented to the web (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The roller 16 has a layer of friction material, e.g. rubber, and rotates against a drag force produced by the action of a coiled spring (80) abutting a friction element (84), Fig. 4 (not shown), whereby a predetermined tension is maintained on the web as it leaves the supply roll.
