Abstract

1288632 Coated glass yarns FIBREGLASS Ltd R BURNS and A E JOHNSON 16 June 1970 [7 July 1969] 34081/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] An aqueous composition for sizing glass fibres comprises a polyvinyl pyridinium salt and a silane, and optionally a water-soluble film forming agent. In Examples compositions are formed from the following ingredients and used to size glass fibre yarns:-a commercial polyvinyl pyridinium salt, acetic acid, γ-aminopropylmethoxysilane, diammonium hydrogen phosphate, paraffin wax, water, gelatine, polyethylene oxide, ethylene glycol, hydroxypropyl cellulose, polyacrylamide and polyvinyl alcohol. The yams are further dipped with a composition of resorcinol formaldehyde resin, formalin, water, sodium hydroxide, natural rubber latex, butadiene styrene polymer latex and a vinyl pyridine terpolymer.
