Abstract

1288224 Hot gas engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N V 4 Sept 1969 [7 Sept 1968] 43842/69 Heading F1S A hot gas engine comprises a duct 27 interconnecting the working space and an additional space 12 containing working medium or interconnecting the inlet duct and outlet duct for the working medium, a by-pass cock 28 being provided in the inter-connecting duct. A first control device 30 is provided for controlling supply and exhaust cocks 17, 22 which control device is movable against the action of a spring 41 to open the supply cock for the supply of working medium to the working space and movable by the spring to bring the exhaust cock to an exhaust position for removal of working medium from the working space, the movement of the control device by the spring being limited by a first fixed stop member 42. A second control device 31 is provided for controlling the by-pass cock which is movable against the action of a spring 45 to close the bypass cock, the movement of the cock by the spring being limited by a second fixed stop member 46. Means 35 sensitive to the pressure in the working space is operable to adjust the control devices so that when the pressure in the working space increases the supply cock is moved to the closed position and when the pressure in the working space decreases the exhaust cock is moved to a closed position and the by-pass cock is moved towards the closed position. A device 50 responsive to the speed of the engine is provided which when the speed falls below a predetermined value moves the second control device 31 away from the second stop member 46. The second control device is constructed (47) to co-operate with the first control device so that in a neutral position of the two control devices in which the by-pass exhaust and supply cocks are closed movement of the second control device results in an equal movement of the first control device.
