Abstract

1287960 Support bands for clothing H KRISTOF 11 Dec 1970 [13 Dec 1969] 58992/70 Heading A3V A support band 10 for an article of clothing such as trousers comprises a facing material 11 which is stretchable in the direction transverse to the band and a backing material 12 which lies behind the facing material and is in the form of a stiffening insert, said facing and backing materials each comprising a meshwork portion and the two meshwork portions being knitted together at least along one longitudinal edge of each of the meshwork portions. With this support band a non slip support means 16 may be incorporated comprising floatingly extending texturised threads 17 which are raised on the visible side of the band, wherein the threads are incorporated directly into the facing material when forming the meshes thereof. The facing material may project below the edge of the backing material so as to provide a marginal region 13 for sewing to a garment. The backing material may be stiffened by employing up to 50% monofilament threads composed of polyamide for example, and in one embodiment the projecting region 13 is thicker and stiffer than the rest of the band suitably comprising thicker monofilament threads. In a further embodiment the facing and backing pieces of material are superposed and knitted together over their entire common surface as well as along the adjacent edges thereof.
