Abstract
1287503 Vacuum formed packages NESTLE SA 3 Nov 1970 [4Nov1969] 52139/70 Heading B8C In a method of establishing a negative pressure in a hermetically sealed container containing a finable material 2 so that, upon opening the container, the contents 2 do not tend to spray out, the container 1 having a concave bottom 3 and an upper flange 4 to which a cover 5 is hermetically sealed, is placed, with a number of similar containers, in a closed evacuation chamber 6 which is then evacuated so that the pressure in the container becomes increasingly greater than that surrounding the container and the floor 3 tends to straighten. As soon as the deformation of the floor is so large that the elastic limit of the container material has been exceeded, the negative pressure is removed, the container remaining permanently in its expanded condition so that the volume V 2 is increased with the consequent production of a negative pressure within the container. The container 1 may be formed of deep-drawn hard foil and the packaged material may be liquid, powder, or a mixture of solid and liquid materials. Some of the parameters to be considered when forming a negative pressure in a container are the properties of the container, the size of the desired empty volume, and the duration and amplitude of the vacuum provided in the compartment 6.
