Abstract

1286267 Portable containers; packages IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Feb 1970 [21 March 1969] 15010/69 Heading B8C and B8D A package comprises a closed ended tubular container 1 of biaxially-orientated polyethylene terephthalate film which contains a carbonated liquid above atmospheric pressure, and a supporting sleeve 5 and 6 of paper, foil, or paper/ foil laminate enclosing the container and having a slit aperture 7 extending around the whole or major portion of the sleeve through which the wall of the container may be cut to dispense the contents, the sleeve being adhered to the container wall along at least one side of the slit aperture. As shown, the slit aperture is defined between two wound paper strips which form the sleeve and which are adhered to the filled container over their entire contact area by a hot melt adhesive. The package may be opened utilizing a tool having a head 12 provided with a piercing spike 13 and a blade 14, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). The tubular container is closed by heat sealing or adhering together opposed faces of a tubular film at each end, and applying a metal band or a ligature 4 below the seal 3 to form a bunched neck as described in Specification 1,241,947. The tubular film is externally coated with vinylidene chloride to render it impervious to carbon dioxide. The tubular body may be filled through an open end after closing the other end, said open end then being closed. Alternatively, the container body may be closed at each end and filled through an aperture in the side wall which is subsequently sealed with a sealing strip as described in Specification 1,251,672. The sleeve lower end extends beyond the container body to form a stand. The sleeve upper end may be similarly extended and closed by a disc or by folding inwardly.
