Abstract

1286200 Reinforced paper MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 18 March 1970 [20 March 1968] 12992/70 Heading B2E A reinforced paper is prepared by applying to one or both fases of a perforated film of longitudinally oriented polypropylene a composition consisting of fibres, a binder and a filler and/or a pigment, drying the coated film and passing it through a heated calender. The perforated film may be made by cutting the oriented polypropylene film with rollers having pins arranged thereon in a stagered order or by twisting the film to cause natural fibrillation of the film. The perforations are preferably slits 0.1-3 cm long. Isotactic polypropylene of melt index 0.5-2.0 is especially suitable. The fibres are preferably cellulosic, e.g. cellulose sulphite and the binder may be casein or gelatin. Specified pigments and fillers are kaolin, TiO 2 , talc, ZnS, lithopone, silica, clays gypsum, BaSO 4 , calcium and magnesium oxides and carbonates. Glossy surfaces may be achieved by including soaps and waxes, e.g. carnuaba or paraffin wax in the composition.
