Abstract

1286035 Synchronous A.C. motors ELECTROMOTORENFABRIEK DORDT NV 16 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969 12 Jan 1970] 2268/70 Heading H2A In a polyphase synchronous A.C. motor which starts asynchronously, the rotor comprises at least two axially-spaced squirrel cages 27, 30, 32 and 27<SP>1</SP>, 34, 36 and associated magnetic cores 24, 25, and the stator comprises annular cores 18, 19 in radial alignment with the rotor cores, together carrying the A.C. winding 20, and a D.C. field winding disposed between the stator cores. The rotor cores 24, 25 are separated by a spacer 22 of magnetic material and each has a pair of poles angularly displaced by 90 degrees with respect to the poles of the other rotor core. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) there is a third squirrel cage, third rotor and stator cores and, correspondingly, two D.C. field windings (17, 17<SP>1</SP>). Some of the squirrel cage bars extend through the rotor poles, and the remainder rest in grooves formed in the centre portions of the rotor cores. The rotor shaft 6 has non-magnetic end portions and enlarged centre portion 6<SP>1</SP> of magnetic material, and is mounted on bearings 7, 8 in the end caps 2, 3 of the motor casing, correct positioning of the rotor cores being maintained by spacers 50. A fan 13 is mounted on one end of the rotor shaft within a further cap 14. On starting, the D.C. field winding(s) may be energized a certain time after the polyphase winding by means of a time delay relay (43, Fig. 5, not shown).
