Abstract

1285939 Feeding webs MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 15 Dec 1969 [14 Dec 1968] 61078/69 Heading B8R Apparatus for supporting strip material S comprises opposed chambers 1 between which the strip passes, each chamber being divided into separate sections A, B, C by partitions 2 and being provided with annular outlet openings 4 provided with further partitions 3 and guide members 6 (Fig. 4, not shown). A gas, e.g. air, is supplied under pressure to the chambers 1 by way of inlet pipes 5, and this gas issuing from the outlets 4 creates a static pressure zone which acts to stabilize the strip in its movement through the apparatus. The form of the outlets is such that the gas impinges on the surfaces of the strip material at an angle in the range of 30 to 60 degrees. The apparatus may be used for cooling strip material after treatment in an annealing furnace.
