1285436 Stabilization of chlorinated hydro- carbons IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUS- TRIES Ltd. 19 April 1971 1 [12 Feb 1970] 6857/70 Heading C2C A chlorinated hydrocarbon which is prone to thermally induced polymerization is stabilized against the effect of applied heat by applying heat thereto in the presence of a tertiary amine having a boiling point of at least 230‹ C. at 760 mm. pressure. A specified chlorinated hydrocarbon is benzyl chloride, and specified tertiary amines are quinoline, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-bipyridyl and 2,21-bipyridyl Examples are given in which ; benzyl chloride is stabilized.
