Abstract

1284342 Riveting ELMWOOD SENSORS Inc 2 Sept 1970 [8 Sept 1969] 41960/70 Heading B3U [Also in Divisions F2, H1 and H2] A terminal and contact assembly in a body subject to temperature differentials, such as a thermostat (see Division H1) is made independent of contractions and expansions of the body by providing a sleeve 26 in a bore 16 in the body 11 and clamping a terminal strip 18 and a contact strip 22 between the respective ends of the sleeve 26 and a rivet 30 inserted therethrough. In the assembly operation a loose pin (34, Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) is temporarily inserted in the bore 16 and sleeve 26 fitted thereon, strips 22 and 18 are placed in position on the ends of the pin 34, and the rivet 30 inserted to displace the pin. When the pin reaches a suitably placed stop, continued pressure on the rivet head 42 causes the outermost end of sleeve 26 to flare as at 52, and the rivet end to be formed as at 56.
