Abstract

1282803 Centrifugal pumps NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR INDUSTRY TRADE & COMMERCE 20 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 13468/70 Heading F1C In a centrifugal liquid vane type compressor comprising a rotor formed with openings through which in operation liquid discharges to form the liquid vanes, and a chamber in which the liquid vanes are formed and rotate upon rotation of the rotor, the axial distance between the walls defining the chamber gradually increases from the centre radially outwardly. The compressor shown comprises a rotor 3 rotatably mounted within a casing formed by walls 14, 15 and having an axial inlet 9, the rotor having vanes 8 and being formed with a plurality of openings or nozzles 10 through which in operation liquid under pressure is discharged to form liquid vanes 23, Fig.2. The liquid forming the vanes is taken from chamber 2 and supplied by pump 13 through duct 11 to the rotor 3. The rotor is driven by motor 7 through gearing. The vanes 8 serve to draw air into the compressor through inlet 9. The air compressed by the compressor together with the liquid forming the liquid vanes discharges into the volute 22 and into the chamber 2, the air and the liquid being separated therein by the device 28, the air passing through outlet 27 and the liquid passing back through the pump 13 to the rotor. The walls 14, 15 of the casing diverge radially outwardly and layers of liquid are formed at 24, 25. The casing is formed with annular outlets 16, 17 through which these layers of liquid may discharge into annular chambers 18, 19 from which the liquid passes through passages 20, 21 into the chamber 2. The width of the space between the walls 26 outwardly of the outlets 16, 17 is equal to the width of the space between the walls 14, 15 adjacent the periphery of the rotor 3.
