Abstract

1282577 Inertia reel KANGOL MAGNET Ltd 21 Oct 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 58800/69 Heading A3V An inertia reel mechanism has a spindle 18 rotatably mounted on a base member in the form of a U-shaped pressing 10 and a mounting member in the form of a housing 24 mounted on the pressing for angular adjustment with respect to the pressing about the rotary axis of the spindle. The inertia mechanism comprises both belt-sensitive and vehiclesensitive means, the belt-sensitive means comprising a pawl 34 mounted on a pivot (36). having a nose 38 engaging the cam surface 28 which is keyed to the spindle 18. On rapid unwinding of the belt from thespindle the inertia of the pawl 34 causes the nose 38 to lift from the cam surface, so that the pawl moves about its pivot and the nose 40 engages with the larger ratchet wheel 30 to prevent further rotation of the spindle. The vehiclesensitive means is as decsribed in U.K. Specification No. 1221846. The angular adjustment means consists of an arcuate slot 70 extending over about 120‹ in the limb 16 of the pressing 10, the slot having serrated edges to accommodate a member 72 of square crosssection in any one of a plurality of discrete positions spaced about 5‹ apart. To adjust the relative positions of the housing 24 and the pressing 10 the operating portion 78 of the spring-loaded plunger 74 is depressed so that the neck 76 is aligned with the slot 70, thus allowing the housing 24 to be rotated relative to the pressing 10. To re-lock the housing in position the operating portion 78 is released so that the end portion 72 re-engages with the slot.
