Abstract
1282530 Coating cobalt based alloys with metals DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE AG 16 Nov 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 54454/70 Headings C7B and C7F A cobalt based alloy is coated with Ni, one or more metals of the Pt group e. g. Pt, Pd, Rh or Ru, and Al, and the coating diffused into the substrate. In an example the substrate is sand blasted, degreased in a cyanide, copper free bath cathodically for 5 seconds and anodically for 15 seconds at 20C. and a current density of 5 amps/ sq. cm, followed by pickling in H 2 SO 4 , then nickel plated in a bath comprising 240 g/l of NiCl 4 .H 2 O, 120 g/l of 36% HCl at 45C. and a current density of 10 to 11 amps/sq dm. The Ni is heated for 2 hours at 260C and 3 hours at 450C., degreased electrolytically in a cyanide bath, pickled electrolytically in caustic soda, and then electrolytically in HCl, and Pt deposited electrolytically from a bath comprising 13 g/l of H 2 PtCl 8 , 45 g/l of (NH 4 ) 3 PO 4 , 240 g/l of Na HPO 4 , at a temperature of 75 C. and a current density of 5À5 amps/sq dm. The Pt layer is heattreated as before and the substrate then aluminized in a pack comprising 5% by weight of Al and 95% of alumina for 5 hours at 1,100C. The pack may contain a metal halide.
