Abstract

1281797 Liquid piston engines SULZER BROS Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 24243/71 Heading F1B The volume of hydraulic fluid between a hydraulic piston 6 of an I. C. engine and a piston 12 of a hydraulic motor 10 is maintained constant by permitting inflow/outflow of hydraulic fluid when piston 6 overshoots desired bottom/top dead centre positions. When piston 6 overshoots b. d. c. Fig. 1 hydraulic fluid can flow via line 19, gallery 14, annular channel 21 and bore 22 into pipe 8 until the gap Su is closed. If the desired t. d. c. is overshot, fluid flows out via gallery 15 and line 20. In another embodiment, Fig. (not shown) bore 22 is replaced by a line (32) outside the hydraulic cylinder. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the hydraulic piston opens valve 63 if it overshoots b. d. c. (For Figure see next page)
