Abstract

1281778 Solvent dyeing FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 6 Nov 1970 [6 Nov 1969] 52926/70 Heading D1B The invention comprises a process for the continuous solvent dyeing of synthetic fibre material wherein the fibre material is impregnated with a dye liquor containing an azo dyestuff of the general formula: wherein R 1 is C n H 2n -O-COOR 10 or -C 2 H 4 - O-C 2 H 4 -O-COOR 10 where R 10 is C 1 -C 6 alkyl and n is 2, 3 or 4, R 2 is R 1 or is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical optionally substituted by halogen or a C 1 -C 2 alkoxy, R 3 is H, Cl, Br, CH 3 , OCH 3 or O 1 C 2 H 5 and R 4 is H, Cl, Br, CH 3 , OCH 3 , OC 2 H 5 , or -NHCOR 9 where R 9 is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , CH 3 COOCH 2 -, CH 3 OCH 2 - ClCH 2 , CH 3 O-, amino or dimethylamino, and is then subjected to a heat treatment. Ar is preferably an optionally substituted phenyl, thiazole, benzthiazole or thiadiazole radical. The solvent is water immiscible and has a boiling point within the range 40‹-150‹C, the preferred solvents being tri- or tetrachloroethylene or 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane. The dyestuff may be added to the solvent in the form of a solution in a solvent miscible with the dyeing solvent medium, e.g. an alcohol, dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide, dimethyl sulphamide or sulpholan. The subsequent heat treatment is a dry heat treatment at 120‹-230‹C optionally preceded by an intermediate drying step or may be a treatment in a superheated solvent vapour at 100‹ to 150‹C. The dyes give yellow-brown, orange, red, violet, and blue shades on polyesters, polyamides, cellulose acetates, polyurethanes and polyolefines.
