Abstract

1281630 Agitating and aerating liquids. DRAVO CORP 11 Nov 1970 [24 June 1970] 53549/70 Heading B1C A diffuser primarily for aerating sewage has a gas chamber 20 and two transverse rectangular cavities 30 closed by a flexible strip member 24 which is secured in the middle by a transverse member 36 so that in operation the strip, and the gas passing over the cavities, vibrate at the resonant frequency of the gas in the cavities 30. The member 24 may be tapered in thickness towards the ends, see Fig. 5 (not shown). The resonance causes a higher amplitude and/or frequency of vibration, shearing the gas bubble to promote a more uniform discharge of smaller bubbles and thus an increased rate of oxygen transfer, as well as causing high local turbulence.
