Lathes.-An attachment for a lathe is constructed so that the pitch of a screw being cut in the lathe can be varied by a simple adjustment. A rack bar E is reciprocated through worm gearing from the lathe mandrel, and has pivoted to it one end H of a lever F, the other end of which slides in a pivot G adjustable towards and from the rack bar by a screw in the frame T. The bar I, which is adapted to hook on the tool carriage, is attached to the lever F by a pin-and-slot mechanism, so that the tool carriage has a definite proportion of the motion of the rack bar varied by adjusting the position of the pivot G.
