128,103. Marks, E. C. R., (Ideal Coated Paper Co.). Oct. 11, 1918. Veneering. - Tape for connecting together the edges of veneers comprises a strip 5 of absorbent paper or fabric coated with two layers 6, 7 of adhesive, the inner layer being less adhesive than the outer, whereby, when veneers have been affixed to a surface, the strip 5 may be easily peeled from the adhesive layer 7 after applying water to it. The adhesive layer 7 is preferably waterproof and adapted to be softened by heat, such as a mixture of asphalt, mineral oil, and gutta-percha, rubber, balata, or other elastic material, and the inner layer 6 may be of starchy material or gum, or when it is required to be impervious to water, of an emulsion of starch, vegetable wax, borax, and China-clay. Grit or abrasive matter may be incorporated in the layer 6 when it is intended to remove the adhesive layer 7 from the veneers by abrasion.
