Abstract
1280624 Purifying H 2 SO 4 IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP (NSC) Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 Feb 1970] 7280/70 Heading C1A H 2 SO 4 of 90-100% concentration, containing carbonaceous impurities, is purified by heating at above 300‹ C., preferably 310-325‹ C., for more than 1 min., e.g. 20-40 mins. The H 2 SO 4 is obtained by roasting sulphidic ores to give SO 2 which is catalytically converted to SO 3 and absorbed, the carbonaceous impurities being derived from organic floatation surfactants or from the coal or oil used as fuel. Suitable apparatus materials are listed.
