Abstract

1280225 Measuring flow rate; electric calculating AUTOMATIC CONTROL ENG Ltd 7 May 1970 [8 May 1969] 23598/69 Headings G4A and G4H An apparatus for measuring the flow rate of a solid or fluent material, generates pulses for each given batch of the material, and interpolates between the pulses by means of a fast oscillator clock. Pulses corresponding to discrete quantities of material are generated by the weigher 10 and fed on line 11 to counter 15. A fast oscillator clock 16 feeds pulse trains to registers 17 ... 20, which are controlled by means of a timer 13 and the pulses from the weigher 11. Register 17 starts when a pulse 50 from weigher 10 appears on line 11, and is stopped by a start pulse from timer 13, so that it measures quantity A, Fig. 3. Register 18 is started by the start signal from timer 13, and is stopped by the passage of a pulse from weigher 10 so that it measures quantity B. Register 19 is started by a pulse from weigher 10, and stopped by a stop pulse from timer 13 so that it measures quantity C. Register 20 is started by the stop from timer 13 and stopped by a pulse from weigher 10, so that it measures the quantity D. In an arithmetic unit, units 22 and 23 form the quantities B/(A+B); C/(C+B). These quantities are then added together with the output from counter 15 in a summing unit 24 and used to display the flow rate. By using an integral number of pulses from a second flow measuring apparatus, to determine the time interval defined by timer 13, two flow rates may be compared. The apparatus may be used for measuring relative flow rates of products in a flour mill.
