1279899 Nitrofuran derivatives DAINIPPON PHARMACEUTICAL CO Ltd 29 July 1970 [30 July 1969 23 Dec 1969] 36792/70 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I: (in which R 1 is halogen, phenyl or furyl and R 2 is phenyl or -A(X) n , where A is C 1-6 alkylene, X is H, OH, furyl, aroyloxy, C 1-4 alkanesulphonyloxy or C 2-4 alkanoyloxy and n is 1 to 3) are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula II: with a substituted hydroxylamine of formula R 2 NHOH, and optionally converting any OH group in R 2 into an aroyloxy, alkanesulphonyloxy or alkanoyloxy group. Compounds of Formula I have antimicrobial activity and may be used in the food and agriculture fields or as the active ingredients in pharmaceutical compositions for oral, topical or parenteral administration.
