Abstract

1279671 Wrapping machines CHEMRING Ltd 10 June 1970 [25 March 1969] 15499/69 Heading B8C In a wrapping machine one end B of a sheet A of wrapping material is attached to a tension bar 3, an elongate article 6 is placed on the sheet A, the other end C of the sheet A is connected to a second tension bar 9 which is then rotated to tighten the sheet around the article 6, and the sheet is received in place as a wrapper. As shown, a strip 4 of paper coated with polythene is heat-sealed at one end to the sheet A and is, after the sheet A has been tightened around the article A, heat sealed at the other end to the sheet A to secure the sheet as a wrapper. The two ends B, C of the sheet A are passed through gaps 1, 5 in a guide member 2, which gaps are narrowed during the tightening of the sheet A. The guide member 2 comprises a slidable cam-plate 26, a cam bearer 27, a rear clamping bar 28, a centre fixed bar 29, and a front clamping bar 30, these parts being mounted on a bolt 25 and urged by a spring 31 to a position in which the gaps 1 and 5 are relatively wide. The gaps 1 and 5 are formed between the front bar 30 and the fixed bar 29 and the rear bar 28, respectively. To close the gaps 1, 5 a cam 23 is rotated by a handle 24, the cam 23 urging the clamping bars 28, 30 towards the fixed bar 29. The second tension bar 9 may be rotated by means of an hydraulic cylinder (39, Fig. 6, not shown) which pivots an arm (36) pivoted to the tension bar 9 and carrying a pawl (34) engageable with a ratchet (33) on the bar 9.
