Abstract

1279486 Device for handling articles STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd 28 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 39151/69 Heading B8H Apparatus for handling sets of articles comprises pairs of jaws (A)-(D), Fig. 1 (not shown), which are rotated from a loading station (E) to an unloading station (F), each pair of jaws comprising two members 14 having flanges 22 shaped to grip four cups 6, and a pressure-plate 30 which is downwardly biased by springs 32. In operation of the device the jaws at the loading station (E) are lowered in their open position over a set of cups, then closed, the projections 24 entering between, but not gripping the cups 6 while the plate 30 bears on the top of the cups 6 whose bottoms are supported on a conveyer (8). The closed jaws 14 are then raised and the cups 6 are gripped by the jaws 14 at four points 28 under the action of the pressure plate 30, the jaws being rotated to the unloading station (F) where they are opened to release the cups.
