1279145 Foaming detergent preparations SC JOHNSON & SON Inc 1 Aug 1969 38789/69 Heading C5D A stable post-foaming gel (defined) consists essentially of at least 40% by wt. of water, soap, at least one water-soluble gelling aid and a post-foaming agent selected from saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons and mixtures thereof, said gel being a coherent colloidal suspension formed from an aqueous solution and having a yield value sufficiently high to restrain the post-foaming agent from volatilizing under static ambient conditions for at least 60 seconds. The gel should have a yield value of at least 4 and a vapour pressure at 90-100‹ F. of from 6 to 14 p.s.i.g. mainly provided by the said postfoaming agent. Preferably the gel contains 50-80% by wt. of water, 4-25% by wt. of soap, and 0À01-5% of the gelling acid which is (A) a copolymer of acrylic acid and a polyallyl sucrose or (B) a reaction product of cellulose or glucose with acids or alkylene oxides, e.g. sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose or hydroxypropylcellulose. The soaps are preferably triethanolamine soaps and may contain foam-producing surfactants, e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate and polyoxyethylene ethers of alkylphenols and cetyl alcohol. Perfumes, flavours, skin conditioners and emollients may also be present. The postfoaming gel may be packaged in a collapsible metal tube or aerosol dispenser. It is preferred to use an aerosol dispenser wherein the postfoaming gel is maintained in the dispenser separate from the propellant by means of a bag (Fig. 2) or diaphragm inside the package. Alternatively, the aerosol dispenser (Fig. 3) may be such as contains the post foaming gel in the presence of a non-condensable propellant such as nitrogen, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide or an inert gas.
