Abstract

1279120 Packing in bags R W PITTS 19 Sept 1969 [23 Sept 1968] 46262/69 Heading B8C In a packaging apparatus, the uppermost of a stack of collapsed bags 15 is opened by means of a reciprocable vacuum shoe 45 having holes 46 and being connected to a vacuum source 28 by tubular members 41, 42 and a tube 30, the tubular member 42 being telescopically received within the member 41 so that, when the shoe 45 engages a bag 15 and the holes 46 are thus blocked, the shoe rises to pull the top bag-wall past a tongue secured to an article guide 14. The member 41 is mounted on a cross-brace 34 which is vertically adjustable to vary the stroke of the shoe 45. The bags 15 are supported on a spring-urged pivoted plate 51 and have their ends engaged beneath a socket 50 the plate 51 being shaped so as to enable an operator to remove filled bags from the apparatus and place them on a conveyer 16. The product 13 is fed to the apparatus by a conveyer 12.
