Abstract

1278774 Fatigue testing machines DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 26 Sept 1969 [28 June 1968] 31167/68 Heading G1S Apparatus for the mechanical fatigue testing of a specimen 1 of the plastics or metal comprises a clamp 3, a deflector 4 adapted to bear on the specimen with a known steady load, a rotatable hammer 5 adapted to periodically deform the specimen against a former 2, a revolution counter for counting the number of impulses applied by the hammer and a transducer 10 for measuring the position of the deflector. The deflector 4 is counter-balanced by a weight 9 and is mounted on a pendulum 7 pivoted at 8. As the specimen becomes fatigued by the impulses from the rotating hammer, the position of the pendulum changes and this position is measured by the transducer 10 which is connected to a recorder 11. Modified constructions of the deflector 4 and the hammer 5 are also described.
