Abstract

1278464 Fluidised bed catalytic reactor; controlling chemical reaction MITSUBISHI KASEI KOGYO KK 10 Oct 1969 [15 Oct 1968 18 Oct 1968 1 May 1969] 49794/69 Headings B1F and B1X [Also in Division C2] A fluidized bed reactor having a plurality of unit fluidized beds comprises a cylindrical vessel 1, a distributing plate 2 for uniformly distributing the reactants supplied through lines 11 and 12, a plurality of horizontal partition walls in the form of plates 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, cooling pipes 9 and 10 and a discharge pipe 13. The horizontal partition walls are provided with a plurality of openings, the size and configuration of which permit free flow of the reaction gas and catalyst. The first unit fluidized bed immediately above plate 2 is preferably made twice as large so that of the second unit fluidized bed above plate 3, and the third bed above plate 4. The spacial volumes of the fourth, fifth and sixth unit fluidized beds are advantageously a quarter of the first bed. The seventh bed is made much larger in order to minimize the discharge of catalyst particles from the vessel, and said particles may be collected and recovered by incorporating a cyclone separator into the final fluidized bed. When the apparatus is used for the reaction of unsaturated hydrocarbons with oxygen, the oxygen content of the affluent stream may be measured by means 14 and valve 12A on the oxygen-containing gas input line 12 adjusted in response to signals from means 14.
