Abstract

1278271 Moulding plastic substances ADAMS POWEL EQUIPMENT Ltd 10 June 1969 [10 Oct 1968] 48104/68 Heading B5A [Also in Division B7] In a moulding machine where a stream of end-to-end pallets is fed beneath a hopper to receive a moulding composition and the composition is shaped by the top surface of the pallets and a device such as a roller which overhangs the pallets, a pallet-feed mechanism is provided which comprises drive-elements 5, Fig. 2, mounted on endless driving chains 4 which elements are arranged to produce a continuous and uniform motion of the pallets 3. Such motion is achieved by providing each element 5 with noses 18 which, engage shoulders 27 on a pallet, pivoting the element to the chains 4 as shown in Fig. 4 (not reproduced), providing a follower 19 which engages a track 21, and spacing the drive-elements 5 such that as one element disengages at the left-hand end of track 21 another element engages a pallet when at the right-hand end of the track. The speed of the pallets is somewhat greater than that of chains 4 since track 21 is inclined upwardly, noses 18 being rounded to facilitate angular movement against shoulders 27. Disengagement of elements 5 occurs as followers 19 run on a horizontal track 28 and during the return run of the elements, their operative attitude is maintained by the engagement of a secondary follower (20), Fig. 3 (not shown), with tracks 22 and 23. A cutter mechanism is described which comprises two knives vertically reciprocable between guides 32, Fig. 6, and mounted on a frame 30. Frame 30 is reciprocated horizontally on slides 31 by a rod and crank mechanism, see Fig. 7 (not reproduced), connected to bracket 37, motion in the downstream direction being at the same speed as the pallets. Materials mentioned are cement, plastics and bituminous and asphalt mixes of various compositions.
