Abstract
1277812 Coated polyolefin material METAL BOX CO Ltd 25 Feb 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 10960/69 Heading B2E At least part of a surface of polyolefin film material is oxidatively treated (e.g. by corona discharge) and coated with a dispersion of a vinyl acetate/alkyl acrylate copolymer together with TiO 2 pigment and a particulate filler to provide a coating which is receptive to writing media such as pencil and inks. The polyolefin material may be ethylene polymer or copolymer and may be in the form of a sheet or lay flat tubing. A primer coating of a solution of polyethylene imine or polyurethane may be used. The filler may be china clay, precipitated chalk, talc or whiting and the copolymer dispersion may also contain water and a dispersing agent such as sodium polymethacrylate or metaphosphate. The dispersion is applied by silk screen printing, roller coating or gravure or reverse gravure process. The coated film is used in the making of bags and envelopes.
