Abstract
1277710 Inertia switches MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM GmbH 19 April 1971 [1 April 1970] 24266/71 Heading H1N An inertia switch comprises a housing 11 forming one contact and a body 1 forming the other contact, body 1 being pot-shaped and retained by a helical spring 3 in an insulating seating 5 which has a bevelled or conical rim 6. Sudden retardation causes body 1 to leave its seating and contact housing 11 to complete a circuit including a battery B and a detonating pellet P of a missile. If housing 11 does not encounter the target head on, body 1 tilts about edge 8 and contacts housing 11. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), body 1 is held in seating 5 by a spring-loaded insulated plunger 21 held down by a slide 25 which can be slid along to release plunger 21 prior to firing the missile, slide 25 and plunger 21 also serving in the plunger depressed position to short-circuit battery B as an additional precaution against accidental firing of detonator P.
