1276647 Housing for artificial knee joints J E HANGER & CO Ltd 13 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 26440/70 Heading A5R A housing for the mechanism of an artificial knee joint comprises a pair of parallel plywood sections 1 secured to and spaced apart by upper and lower hardwood blocks 5 and 7 respectively, a softwood block (4), Fig. 1 (not shown) secured between the sections 1 and to the forward faces of both the upper and lower hardwood blocks 5 and 7, a softwood block (3) secured between the rearward upper parts of the sections 1, and softwood blocks 2 secured to the outer faces of the sections 1. Preferably all components are drilled and dowelled, and bonded with a high strength and high stability waterproof resin adhesive, such as a phenol-resorcinol formaldehyde resin. The hardwood may be makore. An additional hardwood block (6) may be bonded to the sections 1 and to the block (3) to form a backplate retaining member.
