Abstract

1276295 Laminated roofing member PERMANITE Ltd 12 June 1969 [14 June 1968] 28544/68 Heading B5N [Also in Division E1] A roofing member of improved fire resistance comprises a board, e.g. flax shive board, having aluminium film or foil attached thereto over at least one face and also having attached thereto a covering of a bitumen-or coal tar pitchcoating and mineral granule-surfaced felt sheet material. The aluminium film or foil may be bonded to one or both faces of the board by means of an adhesive. The aluminium film or foil may be interposed between the board and felt covering and/or the aluminium film or foil may be attached to one side of the board and the covering of felt sheet material to the other. The felt sheet material may comprise a bitumen-or coal tar pitch-saturated felt base sheet in combination with a glass fibre tissue bonded thereto, e.g. with bitumen, the combined felt sheet material being coated on at least its surface remote from the board with a layer of bitumen or coal tar pitch containing a distributed fibrous filling material, e.g. short fibres of jute or asbestos, and the surfacing mineral granules being applied to and retained by the fibre containing coating at the surface remote from the board. The felt sheet material may be bonded directly to the board or foil layer of aluminium with the aid of bitumen or if in the form of strip slates fixed by nails. The upper surface of the joints between adjacent boards in the roof structure may be covered with aluminium tape to seal the joints in the boards and where aluminium is also applied to the upper face to provide continuity in the protective layer of aluminium.
