Abstract

1276275 Seat-back adjustments AUTOMOBILWERK EISENACH VEB 14 April 1971 9384/71 Heading A4J A self-locking device for angularly adjusting a back-rest (carried by member 1) relatively to a seat (carrying member 2) about a headed hollow shaft 4 comprises a free internally-toothed ring 12 meshing with planet wheels 16, 13 (carried respectively by member 1, 2) which mesh respectively with sun wheels 18, 15, the two sunplanet trains having different ratios, and means for coupling the two sun wheels to a hand knob 5 for rotating them. In the arrangement shown in its normal position, two transverse pins 19 fixed in a pin 7 sliding in the shaft 4 project through a slot in the wall of the shaft to lock the sun wheel 15 to the shaft, and the sun wheel 18 is locked to 15 by projections 23 on the former engaging apertures in the latter under the pressure of a spring 24; in this position rotation of the knob 5 produces relatively slow movement of the member 1 and the mechanism is self-locking. The device may be released, to allow direct hand movement of the back-rest, by pressing a knob 9 to the left to move the pin 7 so that the left-hand pin 19 carries the wheel 18 out of engagement with the wheel 15.
