Abstract
1276048 Coating apparatus JONES & LAUGHLIN STEEL CORP 26 Oct 1970 [12 Nov 1969] 50747/70 Heading B2L [Also in Division C7] A fluid wiping nozzle for controlling the thickness of e.g. zinc coatings on steel formed by hot dipping has an elongated orifice 20 tapering from the outer edges to the centre to produce a uniform coating or one which is thicker in the middle. The nozzle may include a baffle and a screen (Fig. 4, not shown) to improve distribution of the fluid, e.g. air. The nozzle also includes an insert 32 which may be changed to give different coating configurations. The insert may also extend beyond the edges of the nozzle to allow for side tracking of the substrate strip.
