Abstract

1275744 Moulding plastics substances GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 20 Aug 1969 [31 May 1968] 26200/68 Heading B5A [Also in Division F4] A refrigerator cabinet comprises a thermallyinsulating structure in the form of an openfronted box, the box having double spacedapart walls of paper or cardboard with the space therebetween being filled with a foamed plastics material such as polyurethane foam 6. In order to form the structure, sheets of cardboard of the kind employed for forming cartons, and coated on one surface with a layer of aluminium foil are folded into shape, the sheets being fitted around a metal reinforcing frame and adjacent edges being folded over and sealed to close the space between the walls by any suitable form of adhesive. The structure is then placed in a die, having die members shaped to fit closely against the internal and external walls 4, 5 and a polyurethane foaming composition is introduced, through a hole approximately 1 inch in diameter suitably positioned in the outer wall into the space between the walls so as to completely fill the space with foamed polyurethane which also bonds to the internal surfaces of the walls.
