Abstract

1275469 Measuring angles E BARLOW 3 Sept 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 43941/69 Heading G1X Apparatus for measuring angles subtended at a given axis between different points on a workpiece comprises a circular table B rotatable about an axis M on a base plate I and having an annular recess J coaxial with the axis M filled with a continuous ring of touching balls or rollers A which are held against movement in the recess, and an arm D having means C, e.g. a roller, engageable between any two adjacent balls A and an abutment O or P engageable with the plunger of a dial gauge E or F fixed to the base-plate I. A ring (R), Fig.2 (not shown) retains the balls in the recess. The arm D is housed in a recess K in the base-plate I and slidably engages a block H pivoted about the axis M, a spring N urging the arm radially inwards to hold the roller C against the balls A. A measuring wheel G engages the periphery of the table B and is moved from zero of its scale through to zero again as the table moves from one ball gap to the next. The measuring wheel may have a Vernier scale. Angles are measured by counting the number of balls A passed, and adding the reading of the measuring wheel, this wheel being zeroed at the start of measurement.
