Abstract

1275079 Measuring resonant frequency STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 29 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38731/69 Heading G1U In order to compare the resonant frequency of a resonant circuit 1, Fig. 1, with the frequency of a sine wave alternating current, the circuit is connected in series with a resistor 2, the sine wave is applied across the series connection, and the phase of the potential across the circuit is compared with the phase of the sine wave, as described the phase difference is determined by producing pulses whose widths correspond to the phase difference, and using these pulses to charge a capacitor, which is reset at the end of every cycle, so that its average potential, which may be displayed on a logarithmically graduated meter, corresponds to the required phase difference. The arrangement can be used when tuning the resonant circuit: the sine wave is set to the desired frequency and the resonant circuit adjusted until there is no phase difference.
