A coin triggered machine for providing audio, visual, or audio visual information is operable in a forward or reverse direction under the control of an operator. The machine may be for information, entertainment, or gaming and can reproduce music, show pictures or provide a prize. Each of the pictures is provided with a code and the sound reproducing equipment is controlled by the same code. A coin triggered machine 1 provides the information under the control of a predetermined programme which can be halted every time a main signal path 26, 27 is blocked by a first evaluation circuit 4 (Fig. 2, not shown). Blocking can be caused by a first photosensor 2, a clock 9 which is triggered after a predetermined time, or a counter 8 which is triggered after a predetermined number of actuations by an operator of a coin triggered actuator 6. Insertion of a fresh coin or coins restarts the machine. An operator can win a prize from unit 7 either in accordance with a sequence of operations selected by the operator or by chance. Thus when an operator selects a specific picture on the machine 1 a signal on line 28 actuates a second sensor 3 connected to a second evaluation circuit 5. Also connected to circuit 5 are a random signal generator 10 and first and second win function selectors 11, 12. A win selector provides a preset 0 or 1 and may be a simple switch.
