Abstract

1,273,513. Jointing by tube expanding; making nozzles. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 26 Oct., 1970 [27 Oct., 1969], No. 50794/70. Headings B3A and B3J. A metal spool 14 has an annular channel 16 containing explosive 28 covered by a resilient transmission member 20, and a detonator 18, 30 for exploding the charge 28 and locally expanding a metal tube 12 against a metal wall 10. A Ni-Ca alloy thermal shield 12 may be secured in a nozzle 10 of the same metal using a polyethylene or rubber member 20 and three turns of explosive 28 having a core load of 28 grains per foot. The shield may be secured at two annular zones, Fig. 3 (not shown).
