Abstract

1,273,393. Heat treatment furnaces. DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. 2 June, 1969 [5 June, 1968], No. 27767/69. Heading F4B. Two or more independent furnaces 1, in which workpieces are heat treated in a protective gas atmosphere, lead off from a gas tight primary chamber 2 into which the workpieces are intially introduced. In the chamber 2 is positioned a rotatable charging table, which by means of rotatable lifting gear 8, may be brought to a position 4 to allow the workpieces to be charged to and discharged from the furnaces 1, or to a position 5 to allow the workpieces to be quenched in an oil, water or salt bath defined by the Power part of the primary chamber 2, or to a position 6 in which the workpieces may be slowly cooled in a protective gas atmosphere circulated by fan 7. The lower part of primary chamber 2 is removable to allow replenishment of the quenching bath. In a modification (not shown) the furnaces may be of the through flow type having doors in their rear walls leading to additional quenching baths. The heat treatment processes performed may include carburizing, carbonitriding, gas nitriding, standardizing, soldering, sintering and steam treating, hardening or refining.
