Abstract

1,273,059. Building pneumatic tyres. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G. 15 July, 1969 [20 July, 1968], No. 35516/69. Heading B7C. A method of fitting strips 15, 16, against the side surfaces of toroidally shaped tyre blanks for pneumatic tyres, in particular belted tyre blanks, in which, coincident with the fitting of the strips, the mutual spacing of the bead portions 3 of the blank is progressively reduced. The strips 15, 16, e.g. of rubberized fabric and rubber, respectively, or other structural parts are urged against the outer walls of the blank by means of air bags 14 which are inflated and then pressed against the blank by a pusher 20 when the distance between the bead portions has reduced to that which it will have in the finished tyre. Each air bag is mounted on a support 11, at each end of the shaping drum, which supports move inwardly together with discs 4 holding an air bag 5 inflated within the blank to shape said blank to toroidal form. The radial and adjoining curved surfaces of the end faces of the supports 11 facing the drum, are contoured to correspond to the axially outer contour of the bead portions of a tyre blank wherein its fully toroidal shape on the drum.
