Abstract

1,272,440. Air cushion vehicles. AEROJETGENERAL CORP. 14 July, 1969, No. 35284/69. Heading B7K. A gas cushion vehicle has at least one ga<SP>s</SP> cushion cell the or each cell having a flexible retractable skirt 32, traction of the or each skirt 32 being caused by inflation of toroidal bladders 36, 38, 40, the or each skirt 32 being bonded at 34 to plate 24 which is fixedly attached to the recessed portion 22 of wall 20 of the vehicle. Inflation of the bladders 36, 38, 40 is controlled by solenoid actuated valves on each of the pipes 52, 56, 60 which are connected to a pressure fluid sources. The valves are controlled so that by selective retraction of the skirts 32, pitching and rolling of the vehicle may be affected to counteract accelleration and manoeuvring forces.
