Abstract

1,272,263. Conveyer systems. FOUNDRY MANAGEMENT & DESIGN CO. Ltd. 15 Sept., 1970 [8 July, 1969], No. 34284/69. Heading B7L. In a conveyer system comprising a trackway, having rails 1, and a movable carrier 4 adapted to move longitudinally along the rails by means of linear motors 5, the carrier 4 is mounted on swivel castor wheels 3, each having cylindrical support surfaces 3<SP>11</SP> and a protruding central flange 3<SP>1</SP>, the flange 3<SP>1</SP> projecting into a space in the rail 1 defined by two longitudinally extending support members while the weight of the carrier is supported by the surfaces 311 which rest upon the support members of the rail, the arrangement being such that at a transfer area S the castor wheels have only point contact through the flanges 3<SP>1</SP> with the rails at transfer points 6, 7, 8, 9 (Figs. 4, 5, 6) and the carrier may thus be moved off along the rails in a direction at right angles to its original direction of movement. Also described, Figs. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 (not shown), are embodiments in which the carrier may be moved off at an oblique angle to its original direction of movement. Fig. 17 (not shown) shows an arrangement using an additional circulation rail 29 by means of which the carrier may be moved bodily through 90 degrees. Figs. 20, 21 (not shown) show embodiments involving the use of turntables.
