Abstract

1,271,921. Coated photographic film. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. 15 Jan., 1970 [16 Jan., 1969], No. 2067/70. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] A subbing composition for a photographic hydrophobic film support is coated on the support from (1) an aqueous dispersion of a glycidyl methacrylate homopolymer, a glycidyl acrylate homopolymer, a dipolymer of glycidyl methacrylate and a copolymerisable vinyl compound or a dipolymer of glycidyl acrylate and a copolymerisable vinyl compound, (2) gelatin, (3) an organic solvent to swell the hydrophobic film support, and (4) a water soluble organic solvent which does not dissolve the polymer. The copolymerisable compound may be acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, an alkyl acrylate or methacrylate wherein the alkyl group has 1 to 4 carbons, acrylamide, methacrylamide, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, an N-vinylamide, styrene, α-methylstyrene, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile. Preferred dipolymers are glycidyl methacrylate butyl methacrylate and glycidyl acrylate-styrene copolymers. The support may be a cellulose derivative or a synthetic resin film e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, 4, 4'-dihydroxy-diphenyldimethylmethane polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride or polystyrene.
