Abstract
1,271,726. Self-levelling arrangements. R. C. BURROWS. Sept. 15, 1970 [Sept.15, 1969], No.45407/69. Heading G1F. A carrying device, e.g. for baskets of racing pigeons, comprises a platform or shelf 15 located against lateral movement in a support frame 10 but free to tilt relative to the frame under the control of a flexible compartment 25 filled with liquid, to level the shelf 15 when the frame 10 tilts and to tilt the shelf when the frame is subject to acceleration or deceleration to counteract the effect of said acceleration or deceleration on objects carried by the shelf. As shown, the flexible compartment may be a vehicle tyre inner tube containing water. The device is intended for carrying pigeon baskets in a motor vehicle and has shelves 15 inter-connected to move in unison with the bottom shelf, which rests on a waterfilled tube 25. Each shelf has a pin 17 projecting from each corner to engage a hole 18 in a tube 19 slidable vertically in nylon bearings 20 within the vertical corner struts 11 of the frame 10. Slots 22 in the struts 11 allow vertical movement of the pins 17. The principle may be used to provide a stabilized platform for a patient in an ambulance.
